The Motor Carrier Safety Division (MCSD) was established under the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol in 2005 to provide a safe transportation system in the state, while reassuring the public that the mobility of people and goods are one of their top priorities. MCSD Officers work in conjunction with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other law enforcement agencies across the state to promote commercial vehicle safety and security.

The Motor Carrier Safety Division works in accordance with the statutes and regulations issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).  The primary mission of the FMCSA is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. FMCSA is headquartered in Washington, DC.

The Motor Carrier Safety Division consists of Inspectors, New Entrant Auditors, Compliance Review Investigators and Civilian Support Staff.

ABOUT

Mission

The primary mission of the MHP Motor Carrier Safety Division is to reduce the number and severity of crashes, injuries, fatalities and hazardous material spills involving commercial motor vehicles (CMV).

Objective

The objective of the MHP Motor Carrier Safety Division is to detect and correct safety defects, driver deficiencies, and unsafe motor carrier practices before they become contributing factors to accidents. Through consistent, uniform and effective commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety programs, driver/vehicle safety inspections, post-crash inspections, strict high quality traffic enforcement, compliance reviews, new entrant safety audits and public awareness education, this division works to reduce the number and severity of CMV involved accidents and hazardous material incidents.
