The Office of Standards and Training provides administrative and fiscal support for the Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training, the Board of Emergency Telecommunications Standards and Training, the Board on Jail Officer Standards and Training, and the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. The certification of law enforcement officers, emergency telecommunicators, and jail officers is the core program for the three boards.

The Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training establishes standards for entrance into the profession of law enforcement and maintains files on all officers to ensure continuous compliance with all standards and training. The Board develops and administers the basic curriculum for both full-time and part-time law enforcement officers, approves and monitors instructors, full-time academies, and part-time academies, and monitors compliance with the requirements of the Law Enforcement Officers Training Program.

The Board of Emergency Telecommunications Standards and Training develops and administers the curriculum for basic and recertification training for all emergency telecommunicators (law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical dispatch), maintains files on all telecommunicators, certifies instructors, and monitors compliance with the requirements of the Emergency Telecommunications Training Program.

The Board on Jail Officer Standards and Training develops and administers the curriculum and approves the training delivery system for all jail officers (county, municipal, and youth detention), maintains files on all jail officers, and monitors compliance with the requirements of the Jail Officers Training Program.

The Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission establishes professional standards for law enforcement agencies. The Commission develops and administers the program in order to recognize professional excellence in the law enforcement community.
