The class is a 200-hour course curriculum that runs concurrently with a Basic Class. Students attending the Refresher Course will be allowed to sit in training with the Basic class for the courses they need. Officers requiring a Refresher Course will need to fill out a completed application that includes a CPR card, a diploma or transcript, and a completed criminal background check. You will be required to do a pre-entry PT test.
Refresher training is aimed to update students on how to do the job of a law enforcement officer safely and effectively. The Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Academy provides training and facilities to state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies across Mississippi. The Refresher Law Enforcement Training Class incorporates the largest span of MLEOTA’s mission of training law enforcement officers.
Preparing individuals who serve their fellow citizens in the critical role of law enforcement training is essential. Refresher law enforcement training students will become proficient in the following objectives of each Basic Training Class:
- Updated police skills and knowledge
- Update Mississippi laws
- Applying the learned skills and knowledge in a controlled training environment
- Learn ethical standards, particularly the law enforcement code of ethics
- Learn how to relate to peers, superiors, and the public

Application - Refresher Academy Training: All applicants that wish to enroll in refresher law enforcement training through the Mississippi Department of Public Safety's Law Enforcement Officer Training Academy (MLEOTA) must have an Acadis Portal account and submit an electronic application for law enforcement certification to Standards and Training. Cadets/Recruits (or their agency training officers) must have an approved electronic application for certification on file in order to be admitted to a refresher law enforcement officer training academy class. For the most current class schedules and pre-registration steps, check the official MLEOTA website at dps.ms.gov/MLEOTA for any pre-PT test or requirements for the upcoming classes. If you are unsure as to whether or not you have an Acadis Portal account, please contact the Acadis Training Development Manager and verify your account status prior to creating one. The most recent contact information for the Acadis Development manager can be found at https://msdps.acadisonline.com/AcadisViewer/Login.aspx under the "technical support" section.
When a cadet applies for certification and is accepted to a refresher academy class, Standards and Training will assign that student to the course prior to the start of training. All aspects of the cadet's enrollment, testing and successful completion of refresher law enforcement officer training will be managed by MLEOTA staff until the cadet successfully completes refresher training. MLEOTA, as the administering academy under the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, is directly notified via the Acadis platform—either through automated alerts, roster updates, dashboard visibility for academy staff, or internal workflow notifications—since registrations feed into Acadis which is the centralized DPS training management system. This allows MLEOTA staff to review submissions, confirm eligibility (including prerequisites like background checks, prior certification status, or sponsorship), update class rosters, and contact the cadet or agency as needed for any additional steps, such as final approval, payment confirmation, or orientation details ensuring smooth coordination with MLEOTA. If issues arise or confirmation is needed, reach out to MLEOTA directly at 601-391-4904 or the Office of Standards and Training at https://www.dps.ms.gov/public-safety-planning/standards-and-training. This streamlined, electronic process replaces older manual methods for efficiency.
