The Instructor Techniques course offered at MLEOTA is an intense 4-day course designed to train officers as instructors. This course culminates with a timed presentation of subject matter in a classroom setting before an audience. Students are assigned law enforcement subject topics that require the student to research and compose a lesson plan, along with a PowerPoint presentation.
This course is designed to remove the student from his/her area of expertise and knowledge. It then forces the student to research and compose a lesson plan with a PowerPoint presentation before a classroom setting. Each student is closely monitored and required to turn in a rough draft of the topic on the subject matter to State Certified Instructors for evaluation, correction, and edit by instructors. Students are evaluated on the lesson plan content, authenticity, verification of subject research, appearance, subject presentation, vocal tone, and time allotment.
Upon presentation, each student is critiqued on various points of presentation and public speaking. If the student successfully completes the Instructor’s grading evaluation, the student will be called upon to instruct a classroom of students and undergo a final evaluation, by a State Certified Instructor. The instructor will monitor the student during the course presentation.
The final evaluation will be submitted to the Board of Standards and Training for state certification of instruction in that student’s area of subject matter. The student will be subjected to a timed regimen of turning in specific parts of the lesson plan, research material, and PowerPoint “hard-copies" at specific deadlines during the course. Students who have attended the MLEOTA Instructor Techniques class have said, “This is by far the hardest, demanding and exhausting class I’ve ever had!” Here at MLEOTA, we strive for excellence in all that we do. Only nine students are accepted into each Instructor Techniques Class. This is due to the direct one-on-one instruction with the State Certified Instructors coaching the students. This class fills quickly.

Cost: $300.00/per student
Cost includes hotel room and meals at MLEOTA.
