The Department of Public Safety utilizes equipment to its full potential and maximizes its intended purpose while in our inventory. Mississippi law authorizes DPS to donate property to counties and municipalities when it has value, but DPS has no further use for it.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO:
The request is simple. Complete the MDPS PROPERTY E’QUEST FORM and submit a formal request on your agency's letterhead to the Commissioner of Public Safety. The request must be approved by the city council/board of supervisors and meeting minutes reflecting said approval must be included with the E ’Quest form.
Note: DPS will create a list of eligible agencies to receive donated property. Please verify your submissions and ensure that the request letter is signed by the chief, sheriff, or department head to avoid any delay in your agency being placed on the list.
WHAT’S NEXT:
The Department of Public Safety will use the E ‘Quest forms to create a comprehensive list of requests. Agencies will be listed in order of receipt. DPS will also maintain a list of vehicles and other equipment deemed “donate-ready” and will use the list of requests to initiate the transfer process. Prior to transfer, required verifications and documentation must be completed by DPS, as outlined below:
- DPS Fleet/Supply completes the Release-to-Other-Agency Form and forwards it to the Asset Management Division for verification. DPS fleet or Supply will then be forwarded to the Office of the Law Enforcement Liaison.
- The Law Enforcement Liaison prepares a packet for the Office of the Commissioner for review and approval.
- DPS Asset Management signs the Authorization of Release and arranges a date for the agency to pick up the equipment.
- DPS Asset Management signs the Inventory Deletion form and forwards it to the Department of Finance Administration (Office of Purchasing, Travel and Fleet) for confirmation of removal.
- The Agency’s request will be removed from the list of eligibles unless other items are requested. If other items are requested, the form will remain on the list.
**Note: Because this property is used, DPS cannot guarantee its performance.
