The Human Trafficking / Special Victims Unit operates within the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, under the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Its statewide work includes investigating sex and labor trafficking, providing analytical support, and helping partners coordinate a victim-centered, trauma-informed response.

Investigative Support

The unit works with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to identify trafficking involving children and adults, develop investigative leads, and support investigations across Mississippi.

Intelligence and Analysis

The Human Trafficking Analyst reviews tips and reports, organizes and analyzes information, and helps investigators identify connections and develop leads. Analytical support also contributes to statewide data collection and reporting.

Coordination and Victim Support

An effective response requires coordination among investigators, prosecutors, child protection professionals, child advocacy centers, and victim service providers. The unit works with these partners to support victim safety, investigative needs, and connections to appropriate services.

Training and Outreach

The unit and Statewide Human Trafficking Coordinator support professional training and outreach to improve recognition, reporting, and response to human trafficking. These efforts help partners understand their roles and strengthen coordination throughout Mississippi.
