  • MBI submitted and was awarded an $800,000.00 Grant - The FY 2019 Enhanced Collaborative Model (ECM) Task Force to Combat Human Trafficking: Supporting Law Enforcement’s Role which funded three full time agents for three years plus equipment and training.
     
  • MBI partnered with the MS State Department of Health - Office Against Interpersonal Violence and they were awarded a $900,000.00 grant – Office for Victims of Crime Direct Services to Support Victims of Human Trafficking Program: Focus Area 3 – Comprehensive Services and Partnership with Enhanced Collaborative Model Human Trafficking Task Forces.
     
  • Established the Mississippi Human Trafficking Council (MHTC) within the MBI under the purview of Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS) and in partnership with the US Attorney’s Office in compliance with the requirements of the grant to establish a multi-disciplinary task force to achieve the purposes of the grant program and to assist the Coordinator and MDPS in achieving the goals and objectives of the Grant award.
     
  • Researched Data Collection and updated all tips into the Human Trafficking Portal within Homeland Security Information Network at the MS Analysis and Information Center of the MS Office of Homeland Security.
     
  • Posted positions and accepted resumes for three full-time MBI Investigators to work Human Trafficking Cases in the newly formed Human Trafficking Special Victim’s Unit within MBI. This unit consisted of two special agents, an Intelligence Analyst, and a Human Trafficking Coordinator.
     
  • Hosted 4 Interdiction for the Protection of Children Trainings including MS Highway Patrol, local Law Enforcement, Child Protection Services Supervisors, Child Advocacy Center Directors, Attorney General’s Office, and the Fusion Center in North, Central, and South Mississippi.
     
  • Hosted first annual MS Human Trafficking Summit with 400 in attendance - January 30, 2020 at the Jackson Convention Center.
     
  • Met reporting requirements for Department of Justice grant funded task forces.
     
  • Collected Human Trafficking data  in Homeland Security secure portal.
     
  • Partnered with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics to add nine agents statewide to assist in cases with a drug nexus.
     
  • Leveraged existing Certified Trainers to train in their respective fields for greater reach, consistent messaging, and to expedite the process.
     
  • Conducted training statewide and served on regional and national task forces.
     
  • Coordinated leads, cases, potential investigations, and reporting by law enforcement.
  • Hired three full-time MBI Investigators added to the two existing investigators to work with the Human Trafficking Special Victim’s Unit within MBI in the Northern, Central, and Southern regions of Mississippi funded from the federal grant.
  • Purchased equipment for operations and intelligence for the unit through federal grant.
     
  • Included on Response Assessment Teams to respond to all incoming Human Trafficking tips. Included on this team is a Victim Advocate from the Attorney General’s Office, an investigator, and a Child Protection Service social worker if a minor.
     
  • Brought Bureau of Justice Assistance Task Force Liaisons and International Association of Chiefs of police certified instructors to Mississippi to train MBI agents and MBN agents in July and December.
     
  • Conducted operations and worked human trafficking tips throughout the state.
     
  • Submitted Annual Legislative Human Trafficking Report.
