The Mississippi Human Trafficking Council is a statewide multidisciplinary collaboration of law enforcement, victim service providers, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other stakeholders committed to improving Mississippi’s response to human trafficking.

The Council serves as a central coordinating body to strengthen collaboration, improve strategic action, maximize resources, and support sustainable statewide efforts to address all forms of human trafficking.

Guiding Principles

In carrying out its mission and purpose, the Council shall promote:

• Victim-centered and survivor-informed practices;
• Trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches;
• Multidisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration;
• Ethical, data-informed, and evidence-based decision-making; and
• Sustainable statewide strategies that strengthen prevention, protection, and justice.

Duties of the Council

The Council shall:

• Strengthen Mississippi’s multidisciplinary response to sex trafficking and labor trafficking;
• Support victim identification, protection, and comprehensive service coordination;
• Strengthen investigative, prosecutorial, and collaborative response capacity;
• Promote training, public awareness, and professional development;
• Support statewide data collection, strategic assessment, and legislative reporting as required by law;
• Identify systemic gaps, strategic priorities, and resource opportunities; and
• Foster statewide, regional, and local collaboration to improve Mississippi’s response to human trafficking.
