The Mississippi Human Trafficking Council (MHTC) is chaired by Mississippi’s Statewide Human Trafficking Coordinator. Its structure connects statewide leadership with professionals, survivors, and community partners to strengthen a coordinated response to sex and labor trafficking.

Lead Team
The Lead Team brings together the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Human Trafficking / Special Victims Unit, the Mississippi State Department of Health’s Office Against Interpersonal Violence, prosecution partners, and other key agencies. It guides priorities, supports coordination, and helps move the Council’s work forward. The Lead Team meets monthly.

The Lead Team includes designated representatives from the following multidisciplinary partner agencies and organizations.
Advisory Board
The Advisory Board brings additional professional, community, and survivor perspectives to the Council’s priorities and statewide efforts. This board will provide guidance and recommendations to support the Council’s work.
Full Council
The full Council meets quarterly to share updates, exchange information, identify needs, and strengthen partnerships across agencies and communities.
Working Groups
Working groups focus on victim services, labor trafficking, child trafficking, and survivor leadership. These groups bring together relevant experience and expertise to identify gaps and develop practical recommendations, resources, and projects. Additional groups may be formed to address specific needs.
Regional Multidisciplinary Teams
The Council is supporting the development of seven regional multidisciplinary teams aligned with Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services service areas. These teams are intended to strengthen local coordination among law enforcement, prosecutors, child protection professionals, child advocacy centers, victim service providers, and other community partners.
